2009 Match Reports

B.D.A.F.A Grand Final: Under 12 Division 1 - August 22 -vs- Panania RSL

We finished the season as Minor Premiers due to our hard work and commitment during the year. The boys showed great character to back up from a Championship season last year and to overcome all obstacles and take out the Grand Final for 2009 on their home turf in front of their spectators was rewarding in itself.

The majority of the game was played in the middle of the park. You could tell that nerves had crept in for both teams which did not enable us to play to our strength of fluent football causing a limited number of chances. The game was played like a Grand Final and both teams in parts of the game were sitting back and waiting for a mistake to happen from their opposition.

To the boy's credit, they never gave up, the match ending in a stale mate at 0-0 with Yagoona slightly dominating.

Extra time was upon us with two 10 minute halves to be played - followed by a penalty shootout should there not be a goal. With the Coach's encouragement and game plan you could sense that the boys wanted this and they were not going to go down without a fight.

To our amazement, Panania took the lead just before the Referee was about to blow for half time in extra time. We had only 10 minutes to save our season; you could look around and see that all the tension from players and spectators was high. The Coach instructed them to keep their shape and cool and with a few positional changes, the reward paid off as Yagoona was awarded a free kick outside the 18 yard box with two minutes to go.

Liam stepped up to take the shot with coolness, striking it sweet and finding nothing but net. What a way to finish the game which ended in a 1-1 all draw, now it was anyone's to take. A toss of a coin, a lottery as most would say.

The penalty shootout came down to nerves, to the Coach's credit this was practiced many times at training sessions. A preparation well deserved.
We took out the penalty shootout with our goal keeper Michael prevailing with a few terrific saves.

A special thank you goes out to Panania for a great game played along with all their coaches/Managers and spectators.

To our team, I would like to thank the head Coach Goran Kocev and his assistant Robert Bozinovski who kept the boys motivated during every game.

I special thank you also goes out to Joe (Mega Show bags) our sponsor for the back to back Championship seasons.

I am very appreciative and would like to thank all the parents as a Manager for their commitment during the season.

I would like to wish all the boys all the very best and success with their future development in football.

BRING ON THE CHAMPIONS OF CHAMPIONS, LOOKOUT - HERE WE COME!

Football NSW Tiger Turf Cup

On Tuesday April 21 our Premier League played Round 1 of the Football NSW Tiger Turf Cup. The venue was a rain soaked & dubious track at Crest at 8.30pm. Our opponents - the highly fancied Premier League team from Port Kembla who had been tipped to take out this match without much effort.

In the first half the play was all Yagoona - even down to 10 men in the 31st minute after a second caution send off - with Port Kembla being frustrated at every turn - this showing in the way the played.

Even though they had shots on target, the half time score 0-0 thanks to some brilliant defending & unbelievable keeping.

The second half saw Yagoona taking charge again, with Nick Cvetkovski scoring the opening goal with a brilliant shot around the keeper. Unfortunately, another second caution send off in the 82nd minute reduced the lads to 9 & the combination of weather, pitch & the 9 players proved too much for us. Port Kembla equalized & then in the dying moments of the game scored the winning goal.

Our Man of the Match was definitely the goalie - Chris Joveski with many sheer reflect saves, even though being covered in 2 tonnes of mud.
